When you are just getting started with Ikonart all the options of what to buy can feel overwhelming. What you buy will depend on what you want to do with Ikonart. Here is a list of products that we recommend based on what your interests are. If you have any additional questions about what to buy or how to get started, please contact us.
Basic Starter Pack
The Ikonart Custom Stencil Kit has everything you need to get started making stencils. If you are also interested in making your own shirts or trying our purple film, we recommend getting the Textile Add-on Bundle as well. These two items will give you a great intro into what Ikonart is capable of! For first timers we also recommend Coco's Chalky Powder. This powder helps thicken acrylic paint to make stenciling easier.
Ultimate Starter Pack
Are you ready to experience all that Ikonart can do? For crafters who are ready to dive in head first we recommend getting the Ikonart Kit, Textile Add-on Bundle, Torch Paste, Etchall Etching Creme, Ikonart Stencil Glaze, Speedball Black Fabric Ink, Coco's Chalky Powder, Angled Black Silicone Squeegee, DecoArt Multi-Surface 6 Pack, Ikonart Release Sheets, Smart Jig, and the Trigger Jet Nozzle for faster washout.
Screen Printing Pack
If you plan to do a lot of DIY screen printing, these are the products we recommend in addition to the Ikonart Custom Stencil Kit. Our purple Ikonart Textile Film was designed specifically for fabric and works great with the Black Silicone Squeegee. The Tacky Mats are perfect for holding your items in place. The Speedball Fabric Inks and/or Opaque Inks can be mixed together to make any screen printing color you want. If you plan to do a lot of multiples in a row without washing out your stencil you can use a Speedball Frame.
Wood Sign Pack
If you are interested in using Ikonart for wood signs these are the products we recommend in addition to the Ikonart Custom Stencil Kit. The kit comes with three sheets of blue film and three sheets of purple film, but most people seem to prefer the purple Textile Film for their wood signs so you may want to get some extra packs. You can use Coco's Chalky Powder to thicken your paint, especially if you plan to use the stencils on rough wood surfaces. We prefer the black silicone squeegee over the white plastic one that comes in the kit. For more tips check out our blog post, Tips for Creating Wood Signs with Ikonart.
Cookie Decorating Pack
If you are interested in cookie or cake decorating these are the products we recommend in addition to the Ikonart Custom Stencil Kit. Our stencils can be made safe for food contact by applying Ikonart Stencil Glaze to both sides. For food decorating we recommend the blue Ikonart Stencil Film and our Small Silicone Squeegees, which can be cut to any size you want.
Wood Burning Pack
Wood burning with Ikonart stencils is so much fun! Here are the products we recommend in addition to the Ikonart Kit. First you will need Torch Paste. We sell it in a 2-pack, 4-pack, or 4-pack with squeegee combo. Our Black Silicone Squeegee or Black Mini Squeegees works great with the paste. For wood we recommend our purple Ikonart Textile Film because it is stickier than the blue, although the blue can be used.
Etched Glass Pack
If you are interested in using Ikonart to etch glass, then we recommend the following products in addition to the Ikonart Kit. Our favorite etching cream for our stencils is Etchall Etching Creme and our blue Ikonart Stencil Film works best for glass because it is less sticky than the purple. If you plan to do a lot of glasses or tumblers the Smart Jig is perfect for holding your glasses in place.
Ceramic Mug Pack
If you are interested in using Ikonart to screen print on ceramic mugs, then we recommend the following products in addition to the Ikonart Kit. DecoArt Multi-Surface Paint will be top-rack dishwasher-safe after it is baked according to the directions on the bottle, and our blue Ikonart Stencil Film works best for ceramic mugs because it is less sticky than the purple. If you plan to do a lot of ceramic mugs the Smart Jig is perfect for holding them in place. This paint can also be used on glass and other surfaces for a permanent finish.
