Whether you want to preserve a handwritten family recipe, make a thoughtful handmade card, or add a pretty floral detail to your next gift, here are six pressed flower projects you can make with Ikonart.

How to Use Pressed Flowers in Your Ikonart Projects

Pressed flowers are beautiful on their own, but adding custom Ikonart stencils makes your projects even more personal. Add a name, quote, handwritten recipe, handmade stamp, or custom design to turn a simple pressed flower craft into something extra special.

1. Pressed Flower Cutting Board with a Handwritten Recipe

Pressed flower cutting board with handwritten recipe made with Ikonart stencil and Torch Paste

This project is such a beautiful way to turn a loved family recipe into a keepsake. First, we turned a handwritten recipe into an Ikonart stencil, then used Torch Paste to wood burn the design onto a cutting board that we found at a local thrift store. After the recipe was added, we finished the piece with epoxy and pressed flowers.

The result is a gorgeous display piece that feels personal, sentimental, and handmade in the very best way. This would make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day, a wedding, a housewarming, or anyone who loves preserving family memories.

Project tip: Since this project uses epoxy and pressed flowers, we recommend using it as a decorative display piece rather than a working cutting board.

2. Floral Butterfly Wood Sign

Pressed flower butterfly wood sign made with Ikonart stencil and acrylic paint

This butterfly project combines three of our favorite things: Ikonart stencils, pressed flowers, and bright pops of color. We used our free floral butterfly design to create an Ikonart stencil, then stenciled the design onto wood. To help keep all those tiny details crisp, we used Coco’s Chalky Powder to make our own chalk paste. That little extra step helps reduce bleed, especially when stenciling on a surface like wood.

After the stencil design was dry, we added color with watercolor markers and finished the butterfly with pressed flowers for extra depth and dimension. The mix of painted details and real flowers gives this project such a fun 3D look. It is a great reminder that your stencil does not have to be the final step. Sometimes it is the perfect base for even more creativity.

Project tip: For wood projects, make sure your stencil is pressed down really well before adding paint or paste. A thicker paint or paste can also help keep the tiny details nice and crisp.

3. Pressed Flower Bookmarks

Clear pressed flower bookmark with quote made with Ikonart stencil

These bookmarks are easy, cute, and a great way to use supplies you may already have. For the base, we used an old clear cover sheet from our Ikonart stencil packs and cut it into a bookmark shape. Then we added pressed flowers with Triple Thick and finished the bookmark with a quote using an Ikonart stencil.

A tassel that matches the flower colors makes the whole project feel extra finished. This is a great project for book clubs, teacher gifts, craft nights, party favors, or anyone who wants a quick handmade gift idea. You can personalize the quote, colors, flowers, and tassel to match the person you are making it for.

Project tip: Short quotes and simple fonts work best on a narrow bookmark shape. Keep your design easy to read and give the flowers room to shine.

4. Personalized Heart Trinket Dish

Heart trinket dish with pressed flowers and personalized Ikonart stencil design

This trinket dish is a perfect example of using Ikonart in more than one way on the same project. First, we used our free Garden Flower Collection design to add floral details and a name to the inside of the dish. Then we used our free Crafted With Love design to add a handmade stamp to the bottom of each dish.

After stenciling, we added pressed flowers and epoxy to finish the piece. This would be such a sweet handmade gift for bridesmaids, moms, grandmas, teachers, or friends. Use it for jewelry, keys, coins, or little keepsakes.

Project tip: When adding a name or small design inside a dish, make sure your stencil is pressed down really well along any curves so your design stays crisp.

5. Pressed Flower Thank You Cards

Thank you cards decorated with pressed flowers and Ikonart stencil design

These thank you cards are simple, pretty, and perfect for batch crafting. We used one Ikonart stencil and screen printed all five cards in a row. No need to wash out the stencil between cards. Just keep printing, then add the pressed flowers at the end.

That is one of our favorite things about Ikonart. Once your stencil is made, it is so easy to repeat the same design over and over. These cards would be great for small business packaging, wedding thank you notes, teacher gifts, craft fairs, or everyday happy mail.

Project tip: Try changing the cardstock color or flower placement on each card. You can use the same stencil, but every card will still feel unique.

6. Custom Gift Wrap with Pressed Flowers

Custom Happy Birthday gift wrap with pressed flowers and Ikonart stencil lettering

Pressed flowers are such a pretty alternative to a traditional bow. For this custom gift wrap project, we used our blue Ikonart Stencil Film to add the words “Happy Birthday” directly onto the wrapping paper. Then we decorated the package with pressed flowers, book page scraps, and twine.

It is simple, but it makes the whole gift feel thoughtful before it is even opened. You could use this same idea for birthdays, weddings, Mother’s Day, anniversaries, or thank you gifts. Just change the stencil wording and flower colors to match the occasion.

Project tip: If your wrapping paper is thin or delicate, test your ink or paint on a scrap first so you know how it will dry.

How To Make Your Own Pressed Flowers

If you love the look of these projects, you may want to start pressing your own flowers at home. Woodlark Blog has a great tutorial for making a DIY flower press using two pieces of wood, screws or bolts, wing nuts, washers, printer paper, and cardboard.

The tutorial also shares helpful tips, like using absorbent paper, laying flowers in a single layer, and allowing flowers to press for about one to three weeks depending on their size and thickness.
